Our diabetic clinic is held on Tuesday afternoons at 3.00 p.m. by appointment only. To book an appointment please contact reception. Diabetes is a condition which seems to be becoming more common, with some estimates suggesting that up to 1 million UK residents may be suffering from the disease without realising. It is especially important to be checked for the condition if:
- There is a history of the disease in your family
- If you are overweight
- Of Asian or Afro-Caribbean descent
- You are aged between 40 & 75
Other possible indicators of diabetes are:
- Giving birth to a large baby
- Excessive thirst
- Needing to frequently visit the toilet
- Lethargy
- Unexplained weight loss
- Genital itching or recurrent thrush
- Blurred vision
Please note that these symptoms do not indicate that you definitely have diabetes
Generally you will have been booked to have some special blood tests at the hospital before your first appointment, and you will need to bring a urine sample. A nurse will measure your blood pressure, weight, & eyesight and perform another blood test to measure your glucose levels. Your urine sample will also be tested for glucose and protein levels. After this one of our doctors will decide upon any changes to your treatment that are necessary.
There are 2 types of diabetes:
Type 1 diabetes tends to start earlier in life and always requires insulin to treat it. It usually develops rapidly.
Type 2 diabetes tends to occur with older people between 40 & 75 and develops more slowly. It can often be managed with tablets
Around ¾ of diabetes patients have type 2 diabetes. We usually recommend a check up every 3 to 6 months. You should also have your eyes looked at once every year to check for signs of damage, we will provide you with a list of opticians in the diabetic screening scheme during your appointment.

Llawdriniaeth Bychan / Minor Surgery
We can perform minor surgical procedures at the surgery for common problems such as:
- Skin growths, tags, and lumps
- Moles
- Verrucas
- Cysts
- Injections of joints or soft tissue
- Ingrowing toenails
Please make an appointment with your doctor, who will discuss the procedure with you. Normally we will administer a local anaesthetic to the affected area to allow pain free surgery. However, once the anaesthetic wears off you may need to take pain killers. Any removed tissue will be sent for histology for analysis, allowing a diagnosis to be made, results can take up to 4 weeks.
Ymweliadau Cartrefol / Home Visits
We operate a home visit service which is reserved only for patients who are too ill or frail to come to the surgery. Please remember that home visits are very time consuming for doctors, who could treat up to 4 patients at the surgery in the time it take to carry out a home visit, and examinations are always better conducted in the modern and well-equipped surroundings of the surgery. We therefore request that patients make every effort to attend the surgery for medical conditions that can be treated by visiting the surgery, or speaking to the doctor on the telephone. To arrange a home visit please telephone reception.
